Neurology
Dr. Frank McDonald and his staff are skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with neurological illnesses. We believe that healing occurs only when we treat the patient, not just the disease. So you can expect to be treated by clinicians who are warm and caring and who respect your needs.
We are the only practice in northeast Georgia to offer in–house EMGs and nerve conduction studies performed by a physician who is fellowship–trained in electrodiagnostic medicine. We also offer Botox® treatment for patients with dystonia or spasticity.
As part of your clinical neuromuscular exam, you may receive an Electromyography (EMG) study. An EMG provides helpful information in evaluating the function of your nerves and muscles. For problems where weakness, loss of muscle tone, pain, numbness, and tingling are present, the EMG can give your physician important information for making your diagnosis and treatment plan.
EMG
EMGs are commonly performed for
- Carpal Tunnel
- Ulnar Palsy
- Footdrop
- Limb pain
- Low back pain
Neurological disorders such as:
- Polyneuropathy
- Myopathy
- Radiculopathy
- Myasthenia Gravis
- Motor Neuron Disease
Narrow, sterile electrodes are used to investigate how well nerves and muscles are working. Your doctor will let you know if EMG services will be part of your evaluation.
EEG
We offer onsite Electroencephalography (EEG) as part of the evaluation for epilepsy. Doing the study onsite makes it more convenient for our patients. In addition, Dr. McDonald is able to interpret the study in a more timely manner.
