Breast Care Specialists

Led by Priscilla Ruth Strom, M.D., FACS, the first female surgery resident at Emory and the first trauma fellow at Emory, and general and breast surgeons Geary Bush, M.D., FACS, and Mary Read, M.D., Longstreet Clinic’s Breast Center is centered around providing the absolute best care experience available. Our surgeons have a concentration in breast surgery, and for the past 10 years, Dr. Strom has dedicated her practice entirely to breast surgery.

They are joined by certified nurse practitioner Kristi Grabill, FNP-C, BC, who has worked extensively with Longstreet Clinic’s oncology department.  She serves as an immediate resource to provide personalized care planning with patients should results show an abnormality that might need further diagnostics like a biopsy or further follow up and help those patients quickly receive that next step in their care.

If needed, this cohesive team works closely with the other specialties in our clinic, such as our medical oncology team, in order to create a smooth treatment path. We also maintain great working relationships with other community providers such as radiation oncologists and plastic surgeons.

What sets us apart:

  • Expedited screening process – time is of the essence in every breast cancer diagnosis. Should you need it, we provide same-day access to diagnostic testing and even our breast team to provide personalized care planning and guidance to ensure you get as far as possible through the diagnostic process during your visit.

Superior Technology:

3D Mammogram

Also referred to as Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) or tomo, 3D mammography is one of the latest technological innovations in women’s healthcare. It enables images of the whole breast to be taken in sections, and then reconstructed three-dimensionally. This helps doctors to see all around and between the breast tissues to help perform an accurate analysis and search for possible abnormalities.

A 3D mammography exam is similar to a standard mammogram. The main difference is that during the scan, the X-ray tube will move to capture multiple images of the breast from different angles. 3D mammography is performed with the same level of compression and takes approximately the same amount of time as a traditional two-dimensional mammogram.

Accreditation by the American College of Radiology ensures that our technologists and equipment meet the highest standards of excellence. It is just one portion of an evolving approach to breast care.

ABUS (3D Automated Breast Ultrasound)

Early detection of breast cancer is extremely important. That’s why Longstreet Clinic is pleased to be the first in northeast Georgia and only facility within a 60-mile radius to offer Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS), a supplemental screening tool designed for women whose mammograms demonstrate increased breast density.

Dense breast tissue is normal. In fact, approximately 40 percent of women have it. However, breast cancer can hide in dense breast tissue, making it more difficult to detect early-stage cancers with mammography alone. When used in conjunction with mammography, ABUS can increase breast cancer detection by more than 35 percent.

The ABUS procedure requires just 15 minutes and there is no radiation associated with it. ABUS will be applied to your insurance deductible, so there may be an out-of-pocket expense.

And because we know that time is of the essence, your ABUS and mammogram results will be communicated to you in as little as two business days.

Outpatient stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies

Should your exams and screenings show abnormalities, our surgeons can proceed to the next level of examination, including  stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies. We can perform these procedures in the comfort and convenience of our offices, instead of a hospital setting, and you will receive an accurate diagnosis with only local anesthesia and a tiny incision. In-office procedures are often more cost effective for the patient as well.

The Longstreet Clinic Breast Center is located on the second floor at 705 Jesse Jewell Pkwy SE, Suite 295, Gainesville, GA 30501. To schedule an appointment, call 770-533-4700 today.
