Longstreet Clinic Vascular & Vein has been a trusted provider of specialty care for decades. Their providers continue to expand the innovative treatments they can provide their patients. Many of these treatments can be done on an outpatient basis within the Vascular Access Center, located on Longstreet Clinic’s Gainesville campus.
That includes one of the practice’s newest offerings – comprehensive wound treatment using devices and products on the leading edge of wound care.
Venous and arterial insufficiency often results in symptoms like heaviness or swelling in the extremities, particularly the legs, with an increase in pain with movement.
These pathologies can also lead to wounds that won’t heal properly on their own or skin ulcerations that don’t respond to interventions such as angiograms or ablation.
“If patients have non-healing wounds that don’t respond to surgical treatment or are not caused by arterial or venous pathology, our team can take the next step of placing advanced biologic membranes that accelerate healing,” said Adam Smith, AGACNP-BC, a board-certified adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner. “It’s a procedure that’s quick, done in our outpatient center and is reimbursable by Medicare.”
But it’s the results that are most impressive to vascular specialists and a welcome source of relief and healing to patients.
“It’s incredible to see how much better – and faster – these wounds heal,” Smith said, noting that patients notice improvements in pain and mobility, and likely have the ability to return to their normal lifestyles much faster.
Most importantly, properly healed wounds mean less risk of infection and lower the chances patients will need hospital-based intervention resulting from wounds that don’t heal.
In addition to Smith, Longstreet Clinic Vascular & Vein specialists include Charles B. Moomey, Jr., M.D., FACS, John William Perry, M.D., Daniel Torrent, M.D., FACS, and Jarrod Luttjohann, PA-C. They welcome patients in Gainesville, Suwanee & Braselton and have hospital privileges at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville & Braselton and Northside Hospital Gwinnett. They also perform outpatient procedures at our Vascular Access Center, a state-of-the-art surgical suite inside our Gainesville location.
